I love this
post about polar knitting. In it, the author posts commentary on sweaters etc. that appear in the miniseries The Last Place on Earth. Say what you like about the series, but it did have some pretty awesome costumes, props, set and all that.
And I like polar knits anyway. I think my favorite polar knitted items are these:

"Let's have a look at some of this good old-fashioned British equipment, shall we?"
"Right-ho, Captain Scott sir!"
"Scratchy woollen jumper that freezes when wet!"
"CHECK!"
(I know, I know, they didn't have "achingly hard leather boots"... But it's worth it for the way the actor delivers that line!!)
(I own that hat!!!)
That ACTUAL hat? Even if you own a replica of that hat, respect!

When I was watching the Mallory documentary the other day, where the modern climbers were attempting to replicate his climb with his clothing and equipment, it was the boots they were most appalled by.
I own the hat from the movie! :D Not Tom Crean's own hat, but the movie hat. Mark McGann gave it to me. AND I own a replica that a friend knitted.

Well of course! You couldn't wear the Actual Relic out of doors :) That's one very cool friend, I must say.
Like I said, please tell us more!

So I haven't met any Shackleton actors at all, alas! I live on the wrong side of the pond. Oh, but I did meet Bakewell's daughter (who lives here since he was an American.) That was wonderful.
