Yeah, the project's been in place for quite awhile (January of last year), and every once in awhile a big company steps forward to help fund it. Definitely is an awesome idea, if it ever really gets off the ground.
It's a really good idea for areas where there might not be any power infrastructure. The children will still be able to take advantage of the technology.
There is still a Need for FMVs hans, The reason they still look better then in game is because your not limited by the game's engine, Like, say a Quake3 engine... say it has a limit of 1,000,000 pixels, but you want a movie, that the avaerage computer can run at 5,000,000 pixels (or PS3 as the case may be) this FMV can break from of the limits of the engine to give these graphics, so even as games get better, they will still probably always use FMV just to add more PArtivle shaders, vector blenders, doodads and what not.
Also, Blu Ray still isn't worth it... you're still paying more then 5 bucks a pop for DLDVDs, and 5 bucks is a good deal. This will hold sony up for SOOOO long on the PS3
I understand that FMV's look better than regular in-game graphics, I just meant to say that the gap is getting smaller (and a lot of games were simply using in-game graphics for cutscenes).
