Moving to Europe.

Aug 02, 2008 01:04

The last 24 hours have been busy. Moved my flat out... 1/3 to mum n dads, 1/3 to Jessies and 1/3 to the side of the road. Drove the hire van, (which incidentally was a column shift manual :S) a good 217kms, hired a steam cleaner, threw out 10 bags worth of garbage. Handed the keys in, quit my job and am now up at my parents till i leave on the 5th ( Read more... )

Once again, I am envious of your drains. :)

Column shift.... argh. That's such an ergonomic nightmare! I drove my grandfather's old van a few times, which had "three on the tree". If I remember right, it was like this:
1 3
|-|
R 2

Yes, I tried to go from 1 to reverse at one point. It went FAAAARRRRRRRT.

Ive driven a '69 Kingswood quite a few times that was the same. This was an 80's Toyota. The shifter was a bit tighter, but the synchros didnt like downchanges much. It was also a bit different from the three on tree, being more like a floor shift.

2 4 R

Our drains are crap in comparison to the ones im gunna be doing over the next few months in Europe lol.

Nice. So how long will you be able to mill about before you need to find a new job? I guess that is to say, how much money have you saved and how will you be living?

Ill be travelling for about three months on $6000AU, having already paid for all my transportation. Just living in backpacker hostels, eating cheap (cept in places like Prague n Bucharest where food is dirt cheap anyway). Once back in London im gunna get agency work with Adecco or Manpower as soon as i arrive, then look for a job at Heathrow, cos i really enjoy airport work.

Sure, they're selling them at argos last i checked.

Meantime, im chucking my old one out. It still works but its thrashed looking and the wires connected to the battery need soldering if you want it.

sure - when you say thrashed - is it physically broken at all? i.e. major structural damage?

i will be over there in september for newnes so if you see anyone who will be an newnes and is willing to hold it for me :D

PS i'm ordering some HID kits to retro-fit into supertorches for that extra super touch ;)

The cover is full of cracks and it held loosely together with clear tape. The carry handle snapped off ages ago. Stand is ok. Switch mech is really stiff and one of the fluro tubes is a bit weak. Whole thing is pretty manky having been down a fair few drains n sewers. Ill leave it at my sisters in Balmain.
