Chalice V entry: from Hinton St Mary mosaic

Sep 14, 2008 22:01

Quickest of posts to capture the link to Mistress Belphoebe's photo of my mosaic, which I based on the left-hand pomegranate in the Hinton St Mary floor held by the British Museum.

More later, including my documentation :-)

Thanks! I'm very excited about how it turned out :-) Started as a purely intellectual / material exercise -- can I find a pomegranate in my period in a material I can / want to work in? Happy accident in finding the Hinton St Mary as a source, plus the fun of working with colors in my second mosaic attempt, and WOW what a bonus that it looks so purrrty! :-)

I plan to use it for hospitality boards in the future :-) and I'm totally inspired to try out another motif, with the lessons learned in making this one (e.g., one less tile wide on that specific backing tile to avoid pieces chipping off edge).

Thanks again for taking pix! :-)
