Ah, the old BI days. I remember them! My first fandom was Stargate (the movie, not the show). Back then I didn't know what fandom or "fanfiction" was, but my best friend and I wrote these extremely long fanfics that we would take turns reading to each other....oh back in the BI days! lol
i did a sort of fanfiction once--well it was more like plagiarizing, TBH, LOL. i took the plot of a favorite Sweet Valley High thriller book and set it to this cast of characters i wrote stuff for, except some of the details were obviously from my universe....the dad of the family owned an airline company instead of being a lawyer like Ned Wakefield, there were no twins in my family so the killer targeted the eldest daughter, etc, etc.
oh and my first fancrush was Kirk, lmao. who was yours??
BI I remember those days. Fandom for me then was all about collecting memorabilia and getting my hands on any cult/sci fi magazines to keep up to date.
Even when I finally got connected my fan fiction fix came from a mailing list and people mostly squeed in chat forums which I was strictly banned from as my mum was convinced they weren't safe and full of paedophiles.
If I wanted to comment on fanfiction you had to email the author directly. I would say those where the days, but while i have fondness for them you gotta love the kudos button on Ao3 and the leave comment button here, fandom is a completely different kettle of fish now and the magic of twitter and tumblur will tell me all the news almost before its happened no waiting for the latest addition of cult times to hit the shops!
