I have a couple of thinky things that I want to say about writing, but first something I've been wanting to do:
Name a character and I'll tell you three (or more) facts about them from my own personal canon.Fandoms that I can definitely do this in: Little Men, SGA, Friday Night Lights, Keen Eddie, Weiss Kreuz, Gundam Wing, NSync ( Read more... )

  • Part of his almost robotic effort to appeal (see next bullet point) results from his need to be vindicated for how he feels. This is why he read a lot of self-help books (that's fanon), and why he only sings about situations where he is the victim or the object of desire. (That is: Britney cheated on me poor me look how crazy she turned out OR you know I'm hot and you're hot so let's do it OR I'm at the top of the charts whoo for me.)
  • He is extremely smart, but in a very simplistic way. Anyone who has been in the public eye for as long as he has without having a major breakdown (Britney), beating a retreat (JC), or having a slightly awful phase (XTina) is in some way a simple soul, not prone to depression or existentialism or even the basic process of being a teenager. At the same time, he is extraordinarily intelligent, because he knows how to manipulate a great many people, and does so in a formulaic way without showing that he's working from a formula.
  • As a coda to that point, I think he wanted to punch Ashton in the face for ( ... )

I've wanted to write stories from Luna's perspective and always given up in frustration, so I'm skipping her. But:

    Joey Fatone:
  • This is a fairly standard one (it's fanon). He genuinely likes and enjoys sex in a way that most people would call slutty. I see him not as a hedonist, but he enjoys having sex with new people, and sees it as a way of "meeting" them, finding out new things about them.
  • He is faithful to Kelly. (That one's counter to a lot of fanon.)
  • He is the man most suited to being a backup singer in a boyband ever born. He likes the money, enjoys having the opportunity to mug for millions instead of for a handful, but would absolutely hate to be the centerfold.

    Reeeeeid:
  • His number one fear is memory loss. The only time he ever whited out with rage is when a cousin pushed him over the edge of a small hill and he hit his head.
  • He is still a serial killer. (In the way that an alcoholic is always in recovery, never sober.) He knows it, Gideon knows it, and they are both constantly managing his impulses. (I have a ( ... )

For the record, I'm currently a touch fascinated with Joey, thanks to DwtS. I'm intrigued by the way Apolo and Julianne came across as a couple, while Joey and Kym came across as Joey and, ummm, some chick. He has charisma out the wazoo.

BUT, the real reason I'm writing this comment, even though it's Quite Clear that you're still up is to let you know we might want to change our lifting schedule on Friday. There's a kiddie tournament between two (three?) schools at FAP starting at 10. I do still need to be at Shipley at 2:30, so the options are pretty much to lift at 8, to lift at 5, to lift any time Saturday, or to lift during the kiddie meet, which doesn't exactly enthrall me. Let me know what works for you.

I should not be up, though - I am sleeeepy.

Errrrrrgnnghhg. Um. I doubt my ability to lift at 8am, unfortunately, which leaves either 5pm or Saturday. I'm helping a friend move on Saturday, so I'm guessing 5pm? If that's doable? Or we could just go get ice cream? Hm.

    Seconding the vote for Monty.

Also? Perhaps grad school has made me watch a touch too much tv. Possibly.

    Tami:
  • She was terrified of having a baby. Eric helped her get through it, not by talking her through it - she never told him how scared and even hateful she got - but he expected her to be normal (if grouchy, hungry, and tired), and so she was.
  • She absolutely hated high school, even though she was pretty and popular and had academic potential. She wishes she could have taken shop instead of home ec, mostly because she already knew how to make bread and hem dresses, but she still doesn't know how to fix a lamp, and Eric's useless at that stuff.
  • Sometimes she sees kids she knew in high school in the faces of her charges now, and it throws her off. Sometimes, even though she knows it's crazy, she feels like she can make up for the kids who went off the tracks in her high school now.

Ahhh, love these! I keep trying to pick my favorite of the three, but I can't. They're all awesome, and v. much hit on why Tami is so awesomely great.

  • Okay, I already said this in a comment about Gerard, but the first point is that I am a secretly rabid Frank/Gerard lover, and have a tiny inner voice that screams noooooooooooooooo at all those (very good) stories where Frank and Mikey are a couple (or any other pairing, really). I have no idea why. It just does.
  • A large part of why he was bullied as a kid was misinterpretation. He would say something odd that he saw as completely innocuous, like "we should make friends with the trees! and then steal their lunches," and all of a sudden he would have a reputation and would get spit-showered again. It made no sense to him whatsoever, and still doesn't.
  • He's the guy unofficially in charge of cheering people up if they're gloomy or not feeling it. (He doesn't realize that this is because of something I'll write about Bob - he's secretly the cool rockstar kid that everyone in the band is kind of surprised likes them ( ... )

If Frank can't be with Gerard, he has to be with Bob. This is my truth.

Oh, Joe. I don't want to think that Joe is stoned "almost all of the time" off stage, but perhaps dealing with Pete requires it? Heh. But, kind of scared of women? Yes!

Also, your Bob canon below? FTW! You should now take all that canon and WRITE SOMETHING! ;)

I'm going to comment and actually respond in a second, but I wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you for the present you sent me. I've had two popsicles, um. today. And I love the coasters, and the potholder, and the sticky notes! Is it silly if the sticky notes are my favorite part? Well, they are. The coasters and the potholder are exactly the sort of thing I would want for an apartment, but would convince myself not to get because I need to buy big things first, then little decorative touches. I'm really excited about them.

I just think you're wonderful. Better than Bob Bryar, and I've been watching clips of him to tamp down my rageousness all night.

(Oh, and: your AU fic was a slippery slope, and needs warning labels; I read it, and thought it was really good, and then all of a sudden I was reading FOB fic and watching tons of youtube clips and I didn't know what was going on anymore. Help!)

It is totally okay that the stickies are your favorite part. You're my favorite part in general, so hey.

(Hee. Companion fic went up tonight. *tempts you back to slope*)

Oh, I'm so glad, because that was EXACTLY what I wanted to get you, something that you wouldn't, you know, but would love anyway and just, oh *hugs*

    *HUGS*

    Bob:
  • In my canon, he has some kind of learning disability. He reminds me of one of my favorite students, who has one, with the same kind of hesitancy in picking out his words and the same kind of awkwardness when talking to people he doesn't know. It takes him a little tiny bit longer to process, and he's hyper-aware of that. (This is my explanation for why he doesn't like cameras or filming, too.)
  • He is always a little surprised when Frank wants to hang out with him, because Frank seems like the cool kid who would be too cool to hang out with someone like Bob. Frank doing annoying things like jumping in Bob's bunk or hassling him in the middle of the interview always cheers Bob up against his will.
  • Every once in a while, the emphasis on Jersey kind of annoys him, because sometimes he misses Illinois, and wishes someone would ask him about it.
  • He is a really, unbelievably hard worker, and he really identifies with that; if he can't work, he feels like a slacker. This is in part why hospitals bother him so much ( ... )
