18. Wicked: The Movie Cast
So there is a rumor that Baz Lurhman will be directing a prequel to Wizard of Oz, and it would be great if it was based on Wicked. I saw the show a few years ago in Toronto, and it was amazing. Even though I didn't go with the original broadway cast I tried to chose people who were recognizable but could also sing.
Elphaba
Lea Michele;
I think this one kind of speak for itself, I love Lea, her voice is amazing. I think she could easily pull of the vulnerability and desire for change and to just fit in, that characterize Elphaba.
Glinda
Kristen Bell;
Kristen is fun and bubbly, she reminds of Kristen Chenoweth quite a bit. Plus we know she can pull off heavy emotions (Veronica Mars).
Fiyero
Jonathon Groff;
This part was the hardest to cast, because I thought about Hugh Dancy initially, but Jonathon Groff has the voice and the ability to play conceited so well, plus he just looks like Fyero.
Nessarose
(Libby!)
Leighton Meester;
Nessarose starts out as isolated and gorgeous before eventually turning herself into a dictator. Leighton does vulnerable and evil.
Boq
James McAvoy;
This one was hard to cast because I didn't have anyone specific in mind, but James kind of fits the look.
Doctor Dillamond
Jim Broadbent;
I love him! In Harry Potter and Moulin Rouge he proved that even when being manipulative/boderline evil, he still manages to make you love him. It doesn't matter the role, he becomes the character better than anyone, so he was a natural for the Doctor.
Madame Morrible
Carol Kane;
I picked her because she had actually played the character in one of the stage productions, she's quirky and memorable in slightly over the top roles.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Joel Grey;
I had actually had him in mind before I remembered he was in the production on Broadway with Idina and Kristin. I thought of him because of the demon he played in season 5 of Buffy, I don't know there's just something kindly and at the same time creepy about the characters he plays.
Dorothy
Emma Roberts;
I know she isn't in the play but if she made an appearence in the movie, Emma is my pick. She seems to be one of the few young actresses who has talent and has her crap together.
