It's
tradition now, after all.
This was the year of binge writing, apparently.
January
X-Mas drabbles 2010 Part 4This was clearly another case of not finishing Xmas drabbles at all before Christmas, or indeed, the New Year. Out of these five, I honestly only really liked the last two. Apologies to the recipients of the first three.
February
Absolutely nothing.
March
Growing Old In ChaosDissidia one-shot, reflecting on the nature of of age and morality (i.e. why all the Cosmos crew are young and the Chaos crew old.) It was also supposed to be something of a character study on how Cloud wound up on Chaos's side in Duodecim, but I obviously got that part all wrong. Fortunately it didn't mess with the fic too much. I'm reluctant to call it a story so much as a bit of character study.
April
Nothing in April either. This was probably Duodecim's fault.
May
Cyclic DilemmaAh, my Dissidia obsession bearing fruit. I was terribly impressed with myself over the idea of Cloud killing Sephiroth over and over again until things went on to the other foot, but most everyone else seemed more impressed with the cross-dressing scene. I'm starting to think I might be becoming a specialist in that particular fandom trope given the current Xmas drabble requests.

Fallacious Deity Part 1 Fallacious Deity Part 2 Fallacious Deity Part 3 Fallacious Deity Part 4 Fallacious Deity Part 5 Huh. I just realised I never put this one on FF.net. Anyhow, while I had a lot of fun writing this what-if, I also have a lot of regrets. In some ways I think I was paralysed by what I wanted to focus on in this story and whose viewpoint to take, because the possibilities were so endless, and so didn't fulfil its full potential. I also think it deserved more words, more time, and more attention than I was willing to give it, and that really showed in the end result.
That said, I still really like some of the individual scenes and exchanges sprinkled throughout. And I do still want to attempt a sequel to this one day, covering the Confessions of a Creator cycle. I have a chunk of one written already in fact, but it's a bit rubbish so I've been letting it stew while I work on other ideas.
July
Then after producing a whole heap of words in one month, a whole lot of nothing happened.
August
Oh god, in August too. I was writing, honestly, just not posting anything.
September
At last! Reversing Arcana started.
Reversing Arcana Chapter 1 October
Reversing Arcana Chapter 2 Reversing Arcana Chapter 3 Reversing Arcana Chapter 4 Reversing Arcana Chapter 5 Reversing Arcana Chapter 6 Reversing Arcana Chapter 7 Reversing Arcana Chapter 8 Reversing Arcana Chapter 9 Reversing Arcana Chapter 10 November
Reversing Arcana Chapter 11 Reversing Arcana Chapter 12 Reversing Arcana Chapter 13 Reversing Arcana Chapter 14 Reversing Arcana Chapter 15 Reversing Arcana Chapter 16 Reversing Arcana Chapter 17 Reversing Arcana Chapter 18 Reversing Arcana Chapter 19 December
Reversing Arcana Chapter 20 This fic was a weird one for me, as I had long ago decided it was dreadful and had actually physically moved it to the folder labelled 'Fic Graveyard'. I had written myself into a corner and couldn't remember what the point of it was anymore. But then all the hype about the P4 anime started up and I got the urge to play in the Persona verse, then suddenly had ideas and was able to salvage it and finish it. I'm certainly not entirely happy with it, but considering the state it had been in before, was pleased enough. I wound up using it to challenge myself on a few technical merits more than anything else - perhaps at the expense of plot.
....So that's the year in fic! Looking at this, I clearly need to get better at spreading things out instead of binge-writing.
Total Year's Output: Roughly 75,000 words. Down again from last year - three years in a row! D: Again, though, I don't feel too bad about this figure as I have probably doubled it in unposted fic. Actually, maybe that is more reason to feel bad about it.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Less. See above.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2011?
Persona fandom. As mentioned, Reversing Arcana was a binned fic. The Dissidia fics - well, everyone should have seen those coming.
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest.
Fallacious Deity. It doesn't make any sense, because strictly speaking I have almost nothing but criticism for it... and yet it holds a very special place in my heart. I still like it against all logic.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Three FFVII fanfics I really want to finish, all somewhat long unfortunately. I have a couple of other longish fics on the boil that seriously need to get finished soon too, one that has being a perennial thorn in my side at that. And also those Christmas drabbles. Would people like their Christmas drabbles sooner or in larger chunks? *Feels like an Amazon shopping cart*
This is the part where I ask you guys for feedback. Concrit, favourite/least favourites and why, posting suggestions, writing methodology discussion, anything you feel like sharing should the urge strike you. If not, thanks for another year!
