Ha, no, I totally understand. For a while I was on this streak where all of my Batfic was depressing or creepy or both. And I do have a fondness for the dark and twisty, but like... I'm actually a very happy, sunny person, and I had to wonder what people thought of me! XD

The cave is silent, except for a handful of sounds. The trickling sound of water and the creak of settling workout equipment echo in the darkness. He tries to focus on these common sounds. Tries to ground himself in their predictability. He knows what they mean and when they will happen.

I really liked this part, as Bruce grasps at familiarity as the unfamiliar traps him in a half-hated web. It seems like the whole fic takes place in about a second, wow this is good.

Thank you! I had some trouble with that section.. it seemed clunky to me, but it needed to be there so I did as much as I could to smooth it over. I am glad that it worked for you :)

And yeah, as I was writing this, I kept imaging it as being just a snippet of an encounter. A second or two of Bruce's guilt and confusion. I'm really happy this came across!
