Parker still wasn't thrilled about giving up the necklace she'd worked so hard to...well...to get handed over to her without question. Okay, so it hadn't been hard. But that wasn't the point ( Read more... )

Hardison was giving sympathy his best try, he really was, but Parker was hard enough to empathize with on a regular day and she had lifted a necklace that belonged to Noble Team. (...And, if they were the Noble One and Two he suspected they were, after stalking that transmission like it was nothing but bank routing numbers, he was intensely jealous that she got to have a Noble Codename when she didn't even go to the midnight release with him. Yes, he actually purchases some things. Try not to die of shock.) Still, she was Parker and she was sort of...pouty. If...anything Parker did could be classified by normal, human emotional states.

"Hey, you know what? I jut got a great idea," Hardison piped up as they approached. "After this, we'll go boost a sick ride." Car theft ought to cheer her up, right?

Parker rolled her eyes extremely unsubtly. Hardison was being a geek again. He practically had stars in his eyes. And he'd forgotten to introduce himself.

So she did it for him.

"This is Hardison," she announced bluntly. He hadn't stolen any jewelry; he didn't need an alias. "He's my..."

She hesitated for a long moment, before falling back to a...less confusing statement.

"He really wanted to come."

Kat's eyes drift to Hardison, and for a moment it doesn't seem like she's going to say much of anything to him, but then she opens her mouth.

"You were the one that Hypatia had thrown from that flat." Sorry Hardison, that's all she knows you from. And well, says well enough she was definitely looking.

Parker's hesitation makes her snort a little and she turns her eyes back to Carter, crossing her arms.

"He didn't need to worry."

They're not gonna kill Parker and all.

Really wanted to come? The way she said it didn't seem like it was implying that he thought it was dangerous, but no other reaction really made any sense. He was well aware they made other people on the station uncomfortable-- why else would this guy want to come?

At Kat's bluntness, Carter just barely resists a half-sigh, shaking the other man's hand, careful not to grip too hard.

"She's right. Neither the proposed meeting, nor the conversation earlier were meant as intimidation or threats."

Carter was pretty reassuring, but he could have delivered anything short of a graphic death threat and Hardison would have still had the same exuberant smile plastered across his face. This was serious business. He should really try to keep it under control.

"Yeah, that was...a thing," Hardison replied to Kat as Carter released his hand. (CARTER. SHOOK HIS HAND.) It took him a beat to really parse out their assumptions. They thought he was here to make sure they didn't beat Parker up? He was here to make sure they didn't beat up Parker?

Oh that was a laugh.

Somehow he managed not to.

"Well, had to make sure, you know?" Hardison answered genially, even though it was a straight up lie. But...it would probably make things awkward if he just...came out and told them he was a huge fan because he wasted hours playing...them on a console in his living room.

Parker waited quietly as the two Spartans talked to Hardison. At least he wasn't falling all over himself anymore, though the way he was grinning was juuuust this side of creepy.

She did shoot him an annoyed look when he didn't correct their assumption that he was there to...protect her. Or whatever. The look clearly said that she'd let it pass this time, but if he tried bluffing at her expense again, Kat and Carter were going to get a very detailed report of his exact reaction when she'd told him she was meeting Noble Team.

At Carter's mention of their previous conversation, though, she shifts her weight uncomfortably, shooting a guilty look over at Kat. Oh, right. The necklace.
