Sonny was doing what he felt most comfortable with when damaged and frightened: he was hiding. And what better place to hide than what looked to be a rarely visited building full of nonthreatening, nonoperational, old technology? Right?

He was standing behind a sheet of display glass now, with his ill-supported head facing down, and his lights dimmed as low as they went. He was totally here for exhibition purposes only; just a harmless decommissioned shell of a robot, nothing to see here, move along, don't mind the damaged leg or paint job of dried blood and hydraulic fluid; just helps add realism.

It might be worth noting that Sonny's little display setup was in the worst lit corner of the building, and partly hidden by some ancient, huge, computer towers. He wasn't even worth checking out, really, you should go look at the model electrons or something else instead.

Mordin's attention was focused on one thing at the moment: finding some sort of usable computer for the crude laboratory that was quickly taking over one of the spare rooms at Garrus' place. He paused in the dim light, sweeping over the ancient towers. No, not what he needed. And the robot there was probably equally useless, though its aesthetic was considerably different from the other devices in the area. Finding nothing he was seeking, he turned and headed down another corridor, booted feet clattering against the deserted hallways.

She wasn't exactly tailing Mordin.

Okay, fuck it, she was.

She didn't trust Saren as far as she could throw Sovereign, despite what Mordin said. She hadn't been tailing him before, she'd had recon to do, but now Mordin was in the other zones. Zones she didn't have recon for. The excuse was an obvious one, but she'd take it.

She lingered outside, kept a good distance from him, and headed in after a few minutes. The inside was dead quiet, though she assumed it was more to do with it being a Science Museum than the station being completely unoccupied. She kept her hand near her pistol, and walked softly. There was no trace of the Salarian.

Shit, he'd gone wandering.

"Great work Shepard," she hissed quietly to herself.

She had two options, really. She could wait in the lobby 'till he showed up, risk the fact that this might be Saren's favorite new hidey-hole, or start looking for Mordin. The choice was obvious and Shepard sighed.

She was going to have to wander a fucking science museum. Great.

Mordin had indeed gone wandering. The natural science hall had attracted passing attention, but there hadn't been much there that could really help him, and besides, most of the information there was probably superficial at best. So he'd moved on, passing through simulated geological formations and time-lapsed views of the formations of canyons, ascending higher into the building, towards the computer labs that he had been promised.

He paused once, cocking his head, almost certain he'd heard footsteps elsewhere in the building. But then his attentiveness to his mission had reasserted itself and at last he found his way into the lab. Hm. Disappointing, but still usable. Most of the terminals were designed for simple interface with tourists or children, but he might be able to adapt them to his purposes. He crouched, moving to crack open the case on the nearest device.

Seriously?

Shepard had been on terrible assignments before. She'd been in the Alliance Outreach program in her scrub days, had been assigned a handful of degrading non-tasks by old commanders who hated L-2s, but this...having to walk through a hundred educational displays about canyons, while she was on a space station, was remarkable.

Mordin was not in this section.

Shepard started up the stairs to the next floor. All freeze-dried bodies dipped in plastic. Weird, kind of interesting, but everything not a corpse was made of glass. No Mordin, and no Saren. After that it was basic aerodynamics, locomotion, and a display on the wonders of the atomic realm.

She was starting to hope a loki would pop out of nowhere just to give her something to do besides this science crap.

She hit the computer science floor next, and started going through the display rooms. Disc drives, light switches, nano-processors, all the little advancements that made everything comfortable. She really didn't care, but there were no geth and no Saren in any of ( ... )

Normally Mordin found that kind of thing fascinating, when gone into with the appropriate detail. But really, he had better things to do. Like steal computer consoles. He pried the console open with a clatter, the sound echoing down (mostly) empty corridors. He almost wished Tali'zorah was here. She was better at mechanics and computers than he, but he knew his way around a system. He began futzing with the hardware, pried another of the simple consoles open. By combining two of them, he just might be able to get the processing power he wants.
