And after one painful experience leaping between buildings, she decided to keep it closer to the ground for a while until her rib healed.
It was a constant reminder, a dull ache, about the event, and she couldn't help but linger over questions it had brought up. Was that thing up and running around again? Would it be looking for her? Or for this Jack person? If she found one, would she find the other? A small smile ghosted over her lips, would she have to bail him out again?Although really, it was a fairly even match, as far as fighting alongside another went. She'd not had that experience for a while, so used to fighting alone, and wondered if there'd the chance for more ( ... )

His grip tightened on his pipewrench as he walked cautiously under an arched doorway. Houdini splicer? But he hadn't heard the telltale noises. He kept a lookout for hidden areas that they could pop out of. Taking a lead pipe to the face would do very little for his headache.

Jack's talk with Atlas had steeled him. Indeed, it had been the other man's encouragement that had put the plan into motion. At first, he thought that he saw the faintest hint of disapproval when he mentioned the how but it had been gone too quickly to tell. Replaced by a firm hand on his shoulder, a grin, and a few words of advice.
Jack knocked on Seven's door, stomach fluttering nervously. He could rush headlong into a dark room and face a dozen enemies in a row without blinking. Somehow the task looming ahead seemed more daunting. Exciting. But daunting.]
