Bro was trying to just focus on burning stuff, and not to think about everything else going wrong. Fire was actually a really good way to take his mind off things. Like the growing pile of disease ridden child corpses in his apartment. Christ.

He kept his silence, finishing a spot and then flash-stepping to the next, operating with ruthless efficiency.

Eleanor was a few feet away, leaning slightly forward as her hand burst into flame and engulfed a patch of nearby stones, incinerating them. Once they were gone, she let the flame fade, taking a moment to allow her rather crispy hand to heal over.

"I think it's working." She called out to Bro.

Bro cut a swath of flame in front of him with the flamethrower, then moved on to another pile. It was a nice distraction, to be honest.

"Yeah, looks like."

He'd been at this for days, literally non-stop. Someone would report black rock, or someone would start dying on the network, and he would go there. Zone to zone to zone, following the scent of death, following trails of dead foliage and animals or dead people. He tried to avoid the latter.

He'd landed in China in 1406, just after the plague, in a village that had managed to avoid the worst. But by the 1500's he'd been to India, and by the 1700's he'd been to Europe, and plague was there. He couldn't understand it then, how it was so easy, how so many people could just die all at once. And he can't understand it now.

Now, at least, he might have help.
