003, video FOR SCIENCE

Jan 08, 2012 15:20

[ The video opens on a shot of Harry standing on the street, ice coating the ground around his feet and creeping outward at an alarming rate. He's not particularly focused on the ice, though - he has his right hand raised, and all his attention is on one of the station's maintenance drones... which doesn't seem to register his existence, despite ( Read more... )

[ ...uh. Okay, that's really disturbing, and Harry is not bothering to hide the 'what the hell are you?' in his expression. ]

Actually, we prefer to be called wizards... [ Because that's totally the point here. ]

Oh, is that the PC term these days? Well, I know some young folks who hate being called "witches" these days. Funny how things change, yeah? Not that you're from my world at all and would even know what I'm talking about, hu hu hu!

What's with the look, Tall Dark and Wizardly? Never seen a moth with a human head before?

Not so much, no - and I've spent a lot of time in the Nevernever lately. [ Aaaaaaaawkward pause. ]

Gotta say, not the weirdest chimera... thing I've ever seen, but points for being friendlier than most. [ PFFFT, TACT. WHAT IS THAT? ]

The Nevernever? What in the world kind of name for anything is that?

Ohoho! Someone doesn't know their chimeras, I think! Rather, maybe you're just used to really weird ones. But thank you, I think, for saying I'm friendly? Then again, we haven't met face to face yet, hu hu hu!

Well, I didn't name it.

And to be fair, I don't usually meet something like... whatever you are without it trying to kill me. Which could be my problem more than theirs, but I'm a lot more comfortable thinking I don't have a face that makes people want to kill me. [ He manages that just fine using his words. ]

Well, that's silly! Why would I kill someone I just met? Not like you're threatening your little witchlet over there or anyone else, for that matter. Except for a sad, innocent little station drone. What did it ever do to you, huh?

But it's interesting that you say "something like whatever you are"! Implying you've at least met nonhumans before. More than most here can say! Maybe you're even familiar with Folk, hm?

[And abruptly she's a cat. With a human head.]

Okay, the drone was an innocent victim in all of this. But, to be fair, I don't think it minded that much.

[ Oh, hey, shapechanger. Harry looks momentarily surprised, but he's actually less disturbed by the shapeshifting than by the idea that she's actually a moth with a human head. ]

Yeeeaaah, I've definitely met nonhumans before. [ There's an awkward, uncomfortable pause, and an almost invisible wince, before he addresses that next question. ] By Folk, you mean fairies, right? Sidhe?

No, admittedly, it probably didn't.

Uuuggggggh why does everyone immediately think fairies? Powers above, there's more out there than just the hoity-toity douchey-snooty Sidhe! No, Folk are not just the Sidhe. The Folk are all of us! Animal-spirits, trolls, griffins, dragons, wights, Hounds, firedrakes, ki-rin, amorphs like yours truly--all us who you wouldn't exactly call fairies, now would you?

[ There's a stifled little noise that could be a cough or a laugh at 'hoity-toity douchey-snooty', and Harry just waits for her to finish with a faint smirk. ]

Yeah, I don't think we call all of those Folk where I'm from. Or fairies, except for maybe the trolls, and they all live in the Nevernever, but we definitely have most of them. Never met an amorph, though...

Folk is what we call ourselves, and what humans call us to keep themselves sane, I think. Spares them having to learn all our names! And we certainly don't live in a place with such a silly name as "Nevernever." Sounds like a theme park!

Well, you have now! [She turns into a blue piglet with spider legs.]
