[Ouch. There's a quick, sharp intake of breath as that remark cuts home. Yes, Flynn had often brushed off Tron's concerns about the Grid, but he'd always been a friend...]
Flynn never rewrote my code to make me his slave, either!
[Audio/Same encryption]double_discsMay 12 2011, 09:09:16 UTC
Flynn did not write either of us. Why does he deserve any loyalty at all?
CLU has never left me. He has never broken a promise. He always appreciates my efforts, praises my accomplishments. He watches all my matches, enjoys it when I win, rewards me. And he never left me to die.
[Audio/Same encryption]fight4theusersMay 12 2011, 09:23:46 UTC
Flynn is my friend. That is what gives him that loyalty, not some forced servitude from a corrupted code.
[There's another hitch of breath at that, but Tron presses on.] I told him to go. I was willing to die for him.
Sometimes, I think it would have been better...
[He shakes off that dark thought and continues.] And you're conveniently forgetting that Clu did do just that. Or did he tell you he expected you to survive the fall into the Sea?

[Rinzler growls--a pained, angry sound that is pure defense rather than true aggression. His voice deepens with distress and other emotion.]
Extenuating circumstances. Your fault. Your betrayal. Nothing CLU could have done in that instant but complete the mission, finish the Game in my absence. He would have... he would have tried... He would have come back.
[There is a slight pause, and then he growls again.] It doesn't matter! He apologized and he meant it!
[He-he didn't mean to say that. B-but it was true and it mattered. It mattered a lot. To him.]
[Audio/Same encryption]double_discsMay 12 2011, 20:57:24 UTC
Once, twice. [There's a shrug somewhere in that tone.] Our memories are different from the moment we came here. I did not let Tron run around for long. How many times has he apologized to you?
[Wording--what is it? That, that was certainly not elegant or tactical. It was...very blunt. And somewhat revealing if you look in the right place.
[Audio/Same encryption]fight4theusersMay 13 2011, 06:40:43 UTC
[Tron just. Can't argue with that.]
If you want to be... like this, I cannot help you.
[He takes a shuddering breath, more upset than angry, anymore.]
I remember what it's like, Rinzler. I wanted the same, once. I wanted to do everything for him, wanted to be his. But once I remembered my true programming, I did not want that any longer. If you chose to go back to that, then... I don't know what more I can say to you.
Agreed. What is it you wish to discuss?

...
No. I suppose you are not, right now.
You're missing the point.
Reply
[He doesn't say it to provoke--it's said very matter-of-factly--simply attempting to show he didn't actually miss the point at all. In his own way.
That doesn't keep it from being any less a gibe.]

But the question is genuinely curious.]

[Wait. Back up.]
What do you mean you 'did not let Tron run around for long'? You... pretended to be me?
Reply
[He shouldn't elaborate.]
Systems were compromised upon arrival. CLU fixed that.
Reply
You mean... you let him...
[He actually feels sick at the thought of allowing Clu to touch his code like that again.]
He repurposed you again?

[You're beating your head against a wall, Tron.]
What you are now... that is not your code! You are not meant to be like this! Why can't you see that? Do you want to be Clu's slave?
Reply
[But his rumble says otherwise. He does not consider himself CLU's slave. Subordinate, yes. Soldier, yes. Eager follower, definitely. But not slave.
His program.
Tron's words only give him doubt confuse and hurt him.]
Do not mind my directives. Do not mind what I am. Will be considered "corrupted code" if that is what it entails to be CLU's program.
