[ Here, Sacrosanct, have a tiny, irate blonde. ]

Okay, so I'm going to say it once:

If you are a "scientist" [ yes, those are airquotes ] experimenting on something that has known mind-altering properties, and you are not taking the proper precautions to keep the results of your experiments sealed away from the rest of the station, via multiple ( Read more... )

Really? Figured people would be more worried about them developing hyper-aggressive species of bats, or ants the size of houses.

Or are you really that annoyed about kissin' other folk?

It's not about the kissing. It's about the douchebag who thought that taking the kiss-inducing mistletoe and experimenting on it, apparently without any proper airlocks and safety measures, was a good idea!

Has anything bad happened yet? No. Could it? Yeah, probably so, this shit is mind-altering.

[ ...she gets worked up about stuff like this 'cause it scares the shit out of her, to be quite honest ]

He's a scientist. What he does is experiment to learn how things work; that is how things are with him. And I doubt that he would be stupid enough t'put the rest of us in danger, knowingly or un-.

Is anyone else doing anything to try to stop this? Because taking them down doesn't seem to help in the least.

[Barricade knows that horrible things come from scientists, from time to time, but sometimes you have to step back just a little bit.]

If he's keeping everything safe and under airlocks and security then he should say so. Instead he's just going "oooh, I've been doing this for gajillions of years child, oooh" and completely disregarding the fact that I am legitimately concerned about this!

I am all for finding a way to get rid of them! Just safely, and he has not taken a second to even attempt to do anything other than be a huge fucking douchewipe!

[Soothing diplomatic tone is go.]

I don't blame you f'r being legitimately concerned. I am too, when folks start mucking with certain things. But did you ever consider that you might have insulted his intelligence a little by implying he does not know what he's doing?

And attacking one another doesn't get any of us any closer to findin' a solution to our problem.

Well maybe he shouldn't have blown off Georgia's concern over the wisdom of experimenting on the stuff by saying that nothing bad was going to happen.

Because he can't know that. Bad things happen all the time, and it doesn't matter if you know what you're doing because bad things are going to happen anyway, so you have to make sure to do things right, so if something bad does happen, you're the only one who gets hurt by it!

[... Oh, he thinks he sees what's going on. Let him just encrypt this a bit for the sake of privacy.]

You can't safety-proof against all bad things. Even if everything is followed to the letter so it would only happen to one person, things can still go wrong. And sometimes, even good things can go awry unintentionally. I've seen it happen.

Not all bad things can be prevented. If it's meant to happen, it's meant to happen. The best that the rest of us can do is survive, and help each other to take care of whatever bad might happen.
