[Experiment 1 || Hologram]

Dec 09, 2011 18:10

[One of the first things Jane did when she received her bracelet was start playing with it, and perhaps unsurprisingly, she’s become fascinated by it. Hence the hologram, because she wanted to see if it was as advertised. The image that pops up has her looking a little rumpled - she had something of a rough landing upon arrival - but other than ( Read more... )

Doctor Foster, it's good to hear from an Earth-based professional.

Perhaps the key to determining how you arrived is to start with what you were experimenting with?

That's what I'm thinking I'll start with. From what I've heard about how people arrive here on - Sacrosanct, right? - it sounds like my experiment and that method of traveling are really closely linked.

Except getting here is a one-way trip. I'd wanted to make it both directions.

What kind of equipment would you need to detect the 'path' that you took to get here. If we could isolate a trail, wouldn't you agree that it's theoretically possibly to retrace it?

My speciality is biomechanics, but my services are at your disposal if you need assistance.

If we could isolate the trail we could work backward from there, yes, but...

[The stuff that can make her go swoosh fwoosh into another realm, of course.]

A lot of what I used for this and what I use in my lab in general I made myself. I can't just... borrow it from some university's storeroom, I'd have to find things with the right components and then assemble it. And then we'd need some way to power it.

I have some experience in the design of such a generator.

[This? Is the kind of comment that comes with a wry smile, because his team created a 'battery' to power Mjolnir. Not too shabby there.]

There is also a scrapyard from which you could salvage parts. It's not the most dignified process, but when in the field, one has to improvise.

That's the truth. Thanks for the heads-up.

[But that first statement... cue the note of excitement in Jane's voice, rising.]

You do? Do you think you could do it with the materials you've got here?

[Oh, how he wishes he could chuckle, but he simply responds, matched to her early note of excitement.]

It's theoretically possible, but will take some time to gather the parts. If you could provide an estimation of the necessary output, I could, with assistance from yourself and other like-minded professionals on the station, build something to match.

Sure, of course. I've got most of my notes here [She holds up her notebook] so I can get you an answer pretty quickly. I'll... these wristband things have something like e-mail, right?

They have a remarkably similar function indeed. Once the generator is built, I may try to reverse engineer these remarkable devices.

That sure sounds like it'd be a project. I mean, this thing is capable of functions that we don't even have back on Earth in any easily usable form.
