[it's voice, it probably always will be voice, and he doesn't sound pleased.

it didn't take him too long to figure out the bracelet, even if he had never seen technology quite this advanced. and he's not entirely comfortable with it attached to his wrist, but he'll deal.]

How many people are here currently?

[it's a very important question to him ( Read more... )

[Oh, but this is unsubtle... and very interesting.]

Depends who's asking, and why.

[He'll definitely try to avoid it. If only because he's known of humans that are a lot more dangerous than they look.]

[Barricade has to stifle a laugh with his real voice. Military is closer to his true profession, sure - just not human military - but...] Police. Tranquility, California, specifically. Not that I have any jurisdiction in space.

But it's a pleasure. D'you prefer Alex or Mercer? Or on the off chance, both?

[yes, some of them definitely are.]

[police. still annoying, but not quite as much as the military. or blackwatch. certainly not nearly as dangerous.] And here I thought I could feel safe with a police guy around. [and he sounds 100% serious, deadpan, even if he doesn't mean a word...]

Either or, it doesn't matter to me. [and yeah, sorry, he doesn't do pleasantries like 'pleased to meet you' or anything of the sort.]

[ooc; sorry for the double ;; /forgot to change default to smth else]

[He makes a noncommittal sound, something of a vocal shrug.] Around these places? If the natives didn't set up a law enforcement system, you're probably on your own. Or have to hook up with a group for protection. Sorry t'break it to you.

[He isn't really. But he figures that if someone doesn't start off in a completely foreign place with a panic attack, they can handle themselves.]

I'll keep that in mind.

((OOC: Don't worry about it! No big deal ^_^))

[well hey, that's actually good news for him. less people to get on his ass if he ... well, slips up, so to speak.] I think I'll pass after all, but thanks for the heads-up.

[Barricade's aware that people will band together if something is deemed enough of a threat; he even worked with a mech he loathed above all others to solve a problem, after all. But they, that's information only he needs.]

Hey, we're all in the same boat. If we don't help each other out, who will.

[Alex only works well with people who're useful to him, unfortunately. and he kind of hates having to do all the protecting too, or work, which he thinks would be the case--]

A favour for a favour, then. I'm not getting stuck doing others' dirty work. [again.]

[Barricade's got faith in working with others, really; mostly because he works best with another person.]

Sure there ain't much dirty work that needs doing around here, luckily.

[Alex has mostly bad experiences from working with others... always getting the short end of the stick, also getting stabbed in the back figuratively.]

Heh, that's a relief then.

[In general, Barricade had proved himself crazy and dangerous enough to ward off attempts at that. Trying to give him the short end of the stick often ended with the other party stabbed in the gut with it.]

Too many people back home trying to ride your coattails or trick you into doing their job, I take it?

[Alex not only got the short end of the stick in some cases, he's got stabbed with it too at times. though then he proceeded to wipe the floor with those who did that to him, so. needless to say, he doesn't want to experience that again, kthx.]

Something like it, yes.

[Barricade's not going to try to not do that to others here. Not yet, at least; the issues still a bit close for him to do that. Quietly using others to get information he's interested in and building up a lot of favors he can call in later, on the other hand...]

Sorry t'hear that. Sounds like this might be an improvement for you.

[and Alex does think he already said a little too much about himself-- or perhaps just decides he said enough that's actually true, or more or less true, and enough is enough--]

Perhaps. I'll find out soon enough. [no mentions that in some ways? it's one giant improvement. objectively speaking.]

[Barricade knows when to press and when to let up. Not so different from taking mechs apart, really. His Soundwave taught him that much, at least.]

Guessin' you will, at that. [He'd have to agree in that respect. Not that he knows it or that he will.]

[good, because Alex really doesn't like it when people pry into his business.

and he makes a sound of agreement, then--] Thanks for the help.

[Oh, Barricade will pry. But he'll take his sweet time with it. No need to rush it; he's got all the time in the world.]

[There's a grin in his voice.] Welcome. Anytime.
