Does it smell like skunk OUTSIDE the window? (I'm guessing not since you opened it, though). Your room/wall/window could have been skunked from the outside at a close range. If something died in your wall (and it wasn't a skunk) it wouldn't smell skunky. It would smell rotty and it probably would have died in there 3-5 days ago as the smell takes a while to permeate walls (although, depending on the construction of your apartment, it could have been sooner than that
