It is best to pick black berries during actual day light hours.
.... As in, one can actually better SEE, and therefore pick, black berries, if one does it before the twilight hours. :P

There used to be wild strawberry plants as well as black berries gowing along the edge of the woods where you live. There was all sorts of club house stuff set up in various parts of those woods as well.

...and traps of various types. O.o
