I do support the troops, and those who command them. Pick up a copy of Sun Tzu's The Art of War, read the portion on Strategic Assessments, and you'll see why unity between the forces and the leadership, and between the people and the leadership, is essential for a strong military. It's also online if you can't get a paper/hard copy.
As you did mention, this does apply not only to the Armed Services, but our paramilitary officers as well. By that I mean those in the Police and Civil Emergency Services. I personally have a couple friends in the USN, another who's going to go on deployment in a few months with a carrier battle group, two in the US Army in Iraq, another in the Royal Marines over there, and a few in local police departments at home.
