“I told you we had things in common,” Kirk gloats later.
“Hmm,” Spock says, and takes his rook. “Check.”
“Damn.” Kirk sighs. “All right, all right, I get the point.”
He reveals himself to be an excellent chess player, though, enough of a challenge that Spock really does want to continue playing with him. But it turns out to be impossible to

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH.
I'm a total band geek (and star trek geek OBV) and this was PERFECT. I'm pretty sure it set off every button I've ever had (in a good way) and guhhhhhhhh why'd it have to end so soon? ;-;
at first I thought you were going to put Kirk in as the conductor but omg PIKE WAS ACTUALLY IN THE FIC FTMFW
and the way the group become friends? GENIUS.
AND THERE WASN'T UHURA BASHING.
AND CHSULU WERE TOGETHER
yeeeeep this was perf.
A+++++++++++++++++.

Pike = captain of the ship = TOTALLY had to be captain of the musicians! xD And yeah, I have mad love for Uhura (TOS or XI!), so. ANYWAY! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, thank you for reading!

I love really different AUs, but I love it equally when the AUs not only contain the relationships & characters of the original, but also function as their own little self-contained world, to be viewed outside the original. This piece is extremely lovely - effortless, even - and I adored it.

Perfect instruments too, personality-wise, but not as an orchestra. Uhh- if it makes any sense. The dynamics that an orchestra has, and their positions, could've been played up more I thought. (Yourself being a choir person I'm not sure how aware you are of orchestral dynamics), but there's a real leadership that comes along with being first violin, it's a really sort of guiding position (not something I'd put Spock in, ever). And then a huge connection between the conductor to the first violin, then out to the string first desks, and then out further again to the lead wind/brass instruments. So, yeah, that didn't quite resonate with me... That was my only nitpicky bit though, and only because I spent most of my life in the damn things. Ahah.
But yeah, total love for this fic ♥

ANYWAY! I'm glad that wasn't so totally off-base that it pulled you out of the fic, and delighted to hear you enjoyed it. ♥

I'm happy to talk a little more on it if you need. My email is on my profile, or a PM is fine too.
This sort of thing is why I'm always so hesitant to even think of writing anything in a particular area, AU-wise, sports, dance, theater or otherwise. It's so hard to get all those little details correct if you don't have first-hand knowledge of what it's like. You really did do marvelously though. I'll stop sounding like I'm fawning now...

Normally I'm nervous of it too, but it sort of TOOK OVER my brain and wouldn't let go, so I figured hey, why not, create an anon account and do it that way. XD I hung out quite a bit with orch dorks and band geeks in high school, so I kind of knew some things about it second-hand, and figured I wouldn't be completely off-base. I'm still really happy it was good enough for you to be believed!
