Touhou's all about learning patterns and learning to look a couple steps ahead, really. Know when you'll need to bomb and know when you'll need to move. Start with Imperishable Night (8), it's easily the most forgiving of the games.
I was pubbing on vs. mode because ... well because my faith in humanity isn't completely destroyed yet, I suppose. Standard stuff, people splitting off on their own or going 'oh duhr' while I get ripped to shreds, that sort of thing.

I was planning on giving 8 a shot since 6 and 7 made me their bitch, so that works out!
Ugh. I wish there was some kind of single-player versus mode that didn't involve a billion console commands I don't remember. I want to play as the zombies without having to deal with the kind of people they attract. It only ever causes tears.

If I'm pubbing I've kind of gained a mental radar. Join a vs. lobby, check the names. Sensible names or those without weird characters score points, clan tags tend to score points, people playing as survivors first voluntarily score points. It's a habit you use to go 'THAT TEAM is liable to give me less of a headache'. Team Versus is usually a bit better if you can gather four good players.
