Crickets and Tumbleweeds

Seriously I never know what's going on in the Vocaloid community anymore because this was my favorite source. Sobbu sobbu ;__;

Here's some Vocaloid news so this isn't just a useless whining post, Oliver has been adopted for use as the voice of Puppycat in Bee and Puppycat, by Natasha Allegri!

Check out the show sometime, it's glorious ( Read more... )

UM WELL

I apologise for never coming out and actually explaining anything, because I'd always hoped to be able to sort it out! The long and the short of it is that I moved house and my ISP shafted me, leaving me with a 2.5Mb connection shared between three people. This... isn't enough to keep up with vocaloid music, let alone when nicovideo changed things around to make the site primarily streaming rather than buffering, and I had to basically put a pause to it all. Got kinda bummed about it, didn't really have the energy to work, and worst of all we were locked into a year's contract minimum.

That said... I'm supposed to be getting a new connection within the next couple of weeks at a tip-top 16Mb, and along with it I've been wondering what I should do with this place and whether there's anyone actually around. I did at least keep links from my time off, intending to go through them later - you wouldn't believe how many bookmarks I have in two folders marked 'aaaaaag' - and while I might not have the time I once had, I reckon I can ( ... )

I think hauling the community to Dreamwidth may be better since just about every single person I know migrated there a long time ago. Livejournal loads abysmally slow for me most times now, and while I don't know if that's the case for those who still hang around here, it's clear Dreamwidth is getting a good bulk of traffic now. I've heard talk that fandom communities like this are slowly dying, though, and not a lot of them survived the migration to DW, but I say it's worth a shot if there's at least a handful of interested people.

Sadly I've kinda fallen halfway off the Vocaloid train and only have time to check for cover albums now and then so I won't be of much help keeping up with news. I could make an attempt at helping clean up tags, though, like I do over at VDR.

The comment about online communities like this one dying off is a very fair point - I've noticed it happening myself and it's one of the things that really bugged me shortly before I disappeared. I think people do still read communities like this, but the difference is that sharing has become much easier and commenting to things has kind of taken a back seat to a quick reblog. Which is a great shame, because I think that kind of cheapens it all a little and certainly it can make maintainers feel kind of unappreciated, which leads to further decay, which blah blah blah.

If anything this isn't just a planning thread, it's also an interest check.

I'd be cool with a move to Dreamwidth, if other people are there too. I don't have one, but I also basically never use my LJ anymore except to look at the lolita sales community and occasionally look at the sad abandoned state of my friends list.

Tumblr is fun for casual little stuff, but it is so freaking easy to miss things because the post rate is super intense. If there's something on Tumblr I really care about I have to put it on my feedly. And then the commenting system is balls awful. I need proper comments for all of my very very super important opinions about things.

Good to see you even briefly!!

...THIS IS GUESSY, LJ is just failing spectacularly and not letting me log in. As in the log in system is broken for me. Welp. Hopefully this can get through.

I AM IN FULL SUPPORT OF S_R RETURNING, though I'd strongly advise moving over to Dreamwidth on account of LJ's increasing insanity spiral. Me and Avie did runthroughs of the weekly rankings ages ago, but it was on plurk so haha good luck going for usability there. Still, I'd be willing to hop back into it if it would help :|b

aha, plurk is basically multiplayer AIM on a timeline. Useful for talking to a large group of people but it's basically impossible to search for anything on it. Mostly it gets used for RP purposes :'D

Plurk is like Twitter except each message gets its own very discrete 'thread' of responses. Then twitter started to do it too and it became a little obsolete but had a lot of RP focused groups on it.
