Rust Belt Musings

I don't know how to write this post except to just let it out stream-of-consciousness and leave it on the floor.

After doing theater, I think slam has a lot in common with it, scene wise. That's not a compliment. I heard some really well-written rants, and a bit of poetry. I designated myself the East German judge, and got flinched at by a poet that ( Read more... )

poetry, slam

*LOL!
Yeaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!
What I love about Linc is that it is about the doing.
There are so many people after my own heart...most of the poet scene is like theater with egos and players putting on various faces. That's what I love, too.Complex characters.
Prince? Try Ru Paul, whose ratio is something like 3 hours for every 5 minutes. The time delays weren't as bad this year, in So Fried or at Rust.Annoying, but not as bad.Ha!
I hope I can make it back next year. Maybe as a judge rather than a participant.I can get harsh, too.I remember scorn for 6s and 7s in St. Louis.Maybe poets should judge more often, for perspective.
I never thought I'd say this but....I have a gigantic poet crush on Alvin now.Crap.(see complex characters).
Good works this past weekend, truly.

Alvin is inspiring all kinds of poet crushes all over the place. There's something about his vulnerability, talent, breakdancing, (the glasses), and the fact that he loves him some smart, tattooed white women that makes him pretty hard to resist (in my case, to see if I can turn him toward tattooed chcolate instead of vanilla)

K, I hope you go to WOWPS. I think we will show the boys how to put the egos aside and bring the pain, poetically. Can't wait to come through your spot in Atlanta, my poetry home.

I'm so going to WOWPS. I'm trying to throw in my organizational hat into it as well, though it's more difficult to do it from way down here, as much as can be done. I'm mouthy like that ;-)
That's totally what it is---the vulnerability he's allowed himself recently.Like, when I first saw him, he had that absolute-everything-choreographed-too-perfect presentation, but he's shifted. The glasses come off, he lets emotion come through more often now, it seems. The other night was the best I've ever seen him, I think, especially with room to move that piece.I love hangin' around this scene to see how people morph.Seems many more are on it right now than when I first arrived to it--very exciting.
Oh, we'd love to host you or find an excuse to lure you down=)

Emphasis for the a-ha, not for anything pejorative :)

I'll be around a little bit more, hope to catch you in between responsibilities at a slam sometime.

Oh, no, I didn't take that as a bad thing. I heard that a lot this weekend, after all. My fave was Alvin Lau saying, "You're Bill Abbott? You're fucking famous!"

I hoped it came across the right way. See what happens when you leave for awhile?

It's always weird to me when people know who I am. At this point it shouldn't be; but nonetheless it's y'know, flattering and shit.
