... and I saw something literally... b r e a t h t a k i n g !

(I think I actually may have whisper-gasped to myself!)

do you the species of this cactus? I have a pretty good idea but I wouldn't want to say and be wrong by just looking at the picture

I don't know.

If you know, please let me know, cause.. it'd be cool to have more info on it!

I really love it.

Also, fyi, it doesn't seem to have any spines?...

But it is huge, and gorgeous, and one of my favorite things about the yard.

This is more than likely Trichocereus Pachonai. The very short spines, the number and shape of the ridges and the color and size of the flowers are all characteristics of this plant. I have grown them for a few years but have yet to have any to mature to the age of reproduction as yours has. I have a deep fondness for these plants. They are nobel and they remind me how life takes all different forms. This cactus could possibly out-live you if you care for it. This plant has one of the richest histories and has developed a most interesting form of self defense. Within the outer flesh of this cactus is a chemical called mescaline, a potent narcotic. It has long been used by shamen for a very long time as a teacher plant. Still today the Native American Church uses another mescaline containing plant called peyote in ritual and to treat addiction. How a plant could evolve in such a way fascinates me, it is something that inspires in me an awe of the universe. The beauty of this plant is found in many forms. I hold mine close to my heart.

well, I looked it up, and I think you are right (yay!) about what kind it is.

I never knew you were so into this stuff..

I will have to show you some other (better) fotos I have of both the cactus plant itself, and the flower(s).

I'm so happy to find another enthusiast.

In contrast to that ancient beautiful beast in my backyard, I also just planted some baby succulents in my front yard in this cute lil planter...

I'll post some photos...
