My brother is working for the Obama campaign in North Carolina. He has just been handed a new county. In his old county he had to deal with flagrant racism and segregation, open hostility and even having folks approach and threaten black voters after he talked to them. Ok, I do have to say this. I think some of these things are blatantly racist and some of them are Republicans doing the same ol' same ol'. Michael Moore's movie talks about a lot of the false registration issues and such. I'm not saying that it's not *worse* because of people's strong racism issues. However, the whole terrorist thing disgusts me. Esp coming from the McCain/Palin campaign.

Did you hear about her campaign of "Obama's different, he doesn't think like good Americans like you and me"?

It does remind me of how privileged I am though. And it makes me recognize more wholly why my parents left Louisiana so quickly (for fear that the racism around them would infect their children).

I agree with you on that point. When I looked into it a bit further it became clear that these campaigns tend to go that way in the South, at least in the past few. I guess that I didn't differentiate because they all seem to be singling out minorities to attack and race seems to be the focal point, even of the door-to-doors.
