SO much love, I love Adam's vulnerability in this piece. It shows alot that he would want to save her and not take the easy route of letting her go to avoid the questions.

I think it's a combination of using Matt's mind reading and Peter just being a sensitive guy. I think Matt read emotions in addition to hearing other people's thoughts, and I think Peter's natural empathy (not the empathic mimicry, just him being sensitive) augments that. I think Adam was so distressed that Peter couldn't help *not* feel it. The quip about "Empath, remember," was just a joke (empath, empathy, Peter is a w00b, etc. :)

Also where are they?

I actually cut out some of the exposition and sticking it in the 2nd chapter. You'll see :)
