As of today, lysimache and I have been dating for three years. Go us. I keep thinking it has to be more than three, because it feels like a very long time, but I guess three is relatively long. Hooray, I have a most excellent girlfriend. I miss her ( Read more... )

Congrats to you and the lucky lady! :) It's been 3.5 years for my husband and I. 3 years is a big milestone if you ask me.

I'm a huge, huge Hatshepsut fan. My favourite historical figure, ever. She has a ton of names/subnames too, which I like. Have you read Child of the Morning by Pauline Gedge? If not I highly, highly recommend it. It's possible I've told you this before. :D

Thank you. :)

No, you never mentioned it before, but I'll check it out. I know all pharaohs have five names, the last two of which (son of Ra and King of Upper and Lower Egypt, I think) are in cartouches, in addition to all the epithets. (I took Ancient Egyptian once, so I can still sort of read it.) Yay Hatshepsut. If the exhibit ever comes near you, I recommend checking it out.

Congratulations! It's funny, it seems much shorter than three years to me. But yay! Girlfriends are cool, at least so I'm told. And good thinking on the credit card. If you use it responsibly it's very useful. (Also don't forget that you're entitled to one free credit report a year from each of the three major services; that can help assuage fears that nasty people are stealing your identity and running up bills on phone sex lines and pizza delivery).

Thank you. And, yes, girlfriends are cool. I'm told boyfriends are cool as well.

I do plan to charge responsibly, yes. And with the teeny limit that's on this thing, I really doubt people could do that much damage, but thanks for the tip.

The Academy of Sciences is in a temporary home circa 4th and Mission. I think they're still doing the temporary chocolate show, which was pretty fabulous, though most of the permanent displays are in storage. Except the animals, so now it's all penguins and fish and those snakes that perch on branches and dart own to eat fish and are so totally cool.

I did hear that it moved -- there was an ad on the radio urging people to do their gift shopping there, but I didn't know what the condition of the exhibits was.

I've never seen those snakes, but they sound totally cool. So does the chocolate show. actually.

Have you been to the de Young since it reopened? It's spiffy.
