Okay, Eagle fandom, you know how there's a bit at the beginning of the novel in which Marcus reminisces about his father? He had very vivid memories of a slight, dark man with laughter lines at the corners of his eyes, who had come home from time to time, and taught him to fish, to play 'Flash the Fingers', and throw a javelin.I just found out ( Read more... )

It looks awesome! I had no idea it was so intense, as a game. I mean, you don't see screaming matches of rock, paper, scissors. I don't, anyway.

It's the Italian version of rock, paper scissors with chest bumps and yelling into each other's faces. All in good fun and for money, of course. Even the local priest was playing. :)

I am in favor of all stories about ancient games, especially if playing them involves screaming. Plus, the story comes with a ready made title! In Latin, no less! How can you resist?

Save the idea for when you're having a fic drought. Then you will be pleased to have a ready-made title!

Yeah, it never occurred to me either that it was an actual game. But it is! There's also a game where you make stacks of almonds and then fling almonds at your opponent's stack.

Also there is a latrunculi app for iOS. It's strange to be living in the future sometimes.

I was going to say there was also a computer version but I think it's also Mac-only. There might be an Android one, but I don't know if that helps you.
