Does anyone have any TS recs?

So this LJ friend o' mine, bigmamag, is just now getting into The Sentinel fandom. And she asked me for recs, because I think I'm the only fan she knows who was ever in TS. The must-reads and the "classics of the fandom," basically ( Read more... )

Ooh, good catch! I didn't think of that, but that's probably because I think the only gen I ever really read was the GDP series.

I know Speranza wrote TS and her fics are archived on her website; I haven't read them but she's a good writer so they must be pretty decent.

Believe me, hers was the first name I thought of. :) She was, um... really well-known in the fandom. You should read them!

I never watched the show so I haven't been interested in that fandom. I read all her SGA and Due South fic, though. :D

I think you can read the fic without seeing the show (God knows there were a lot of people *writing* it without having seen the show, though now at least the first season is on DVD), but I understand that people who aren't me care more about whether they've actually seen the source for the fic they're reading. :)

I read a ton of Sentinel back in the day. I assume you know the addies of the two main archives (852 Prospect and Cascade Library). My fav authors are:

Lanning Cook
Pares
Francesca (aka Speranza)
Lamardeuse
Veronica
Anna S.
Sihaya Black
Destina

Destina was kind enough to do a rec page. She highlights some excellent authors: http://www.lyricalmagic.com/senrecs.html

I also put up a rec page of my own: http://www.ancastascorner.com/10_ts_stories.html

That should get you started. :-)

It looks like your back-in-the-day and mine were at about the same time, because that's a lot of the list I came up with for favorite authors. (Though I can't believe I forgot Pares and Destina. Shame on me.) My advice was pretty much that you can't go wrong with anyone who had a story in the Crossroads zine, as a starting metric. (Okay, maybe you can go wrong depending on how you feel about, say, Kim Gasper's "Magick," but YMMV. Hey, maybe I should reread that.)

I did pass on the archive URLs (I am so glad TS fandom still has archives) and thanks for the rec lists. Have I mentioned how incredibly useful I found your recs when I was starting to read Pros? :)

I know they still do Sentinel recs over at crack_van, so that could give you some classic and recent recs. :)

Oh, thanks. For some reason I always forget about that community, despite, you know, reading it every day. :)

I don't have that many tS bookmarks. m_shell January 3 2011, 06:55:19 UTC
And I might be a teensy bit embarrassed to share the ones I have in public.

But I'll send you some. :D
