What about everything?

Nov 20, 2009 14:09

My question, O Internet Oracle: Why are there so many vids to "What About Everything?" by Carbon Leaf? I understand there being a lot of vids to popular songs or artists. I understand why there are a lot of vids to Sarah McLachlan or Linkin Park or "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls. But I've never heard of Carbon Leaf other than this song, and I've never ( Read more... )

(Hey, who's the one with the longish hair and, like, the rakish cravat and waistcoat? He looks intriguing. And oddly modern.)

That's Eight! His only TV appearance was in the DW TV movie back in '96. It was supposed to create new American interest in the franchise but instead flopped here in the US like a dead fish. It's really too bad, because Paul McGann (the actor who played Eight) is one of my favorites. :)

Eight's reign is more in the book/radio play market. I myself haven't gotten that far into the franchise, but he does have a really strong following.

YAY EIGHT!

So that's Eight? Huh. Good to know.

The only non-current Doctor I can identify at all is really Four, and that's just 'cause lysimache likes Sarah Jane, so those are the DVDs we get from the library. Plus he has the scarf.

There's also one for Farscape (which I had to stop watching half-way through, because it was spoiling me too much, but yes). I guess it's a really good song to set a vid to? I mean, it was practically made for the kind of season-spanning canon overview that the SPN one does, and it lets you play around with the lyrics in in-jokey ways? I assume. No clue about Doctor Who, though.

Ooh, thanks, I didn't know about the Farscape one, but I've never seen Farscape, so. The B5 one is pretty much a season-spanning overview too, so maybe it's good for vids about, um, everything.

I also need to figure out why there are so many vids to the Flobots' "Handlebars" -- I've seen Doctor Who, Iron Man, and I think Merlin. There are probably others.

I have a couple of Carbon Leaf cds. I discovered them a few years ago because of an NPR music broadcast. They're all right, but don't know if they're worth such a weird following.

Speaking of fanvids... I don't like the song, but there is an awesome X-files fanvid up to the song 'crushcrushcrush' by Paramore. That song gets a lot more credit than it deserves simply because the video is so awesome!

I can't explain the following either.

I agree that a good vid can make a song palatable. I've never seen that vid, though. I've really only seen a few XF vids. And then I made one (a deeply ironic M/K vid), and then mostly I left the fandom.

Deeply ironic, eh? The fandom is pretty quiet right now (I hang around on the fanfic-writing fringes), but MAN are there some vocal M/K shippers.

I really WANT to like Carbon Leaf, except really I just scroll through my iTunes and say, "wow, I have a lot of Carbon Leaf that has never been listened to - I should delete those..."

Yeah. I think ironic was probably the word for it.

The .avi I put up on megaupload, like, eight months ago, still seems to be up. Otherwise I think the one in the index post is RealPlayer.

Yeah, I only listen to the one Carbon Leaf song from those vids; I don't know why I have the rest.

I know exactly one Carbon Leaf song also, but amusingly it is not this one.

Well, now you know two, I guess. I was thinking they must only have the one song, but it seems not.

I have never heard of this song, and no-one i know has ever heard of this band; it's not even on the uni's super sceret student-run peer to peer file sharing thingum. Maybe they haven't hit South Africa yet. I wish i could find an mp3 to dl.

I believe they're American, and I'm thinking they're not very popular even here, because I've only heard the one song. Hmm.
