Update of Sorts, I suppose

THIMUN. Awesome. I suppose I'll talk about it if you ask, but it's the kind of experience that's a bit too claustrophobic and inside-jokey to really re-hash. But I did win the Pimping Prize ( Read more... )

Butt plugs of Mohammad fractaltime January 30 2006, 09:28:14 UTC
He he ... I'll remember that next time I see a nun walk funnily ...

Sharmin, you are from a vague'ish'ly moslem background, aren't you, with a bangla dad and all? How would moslems react if something similar was done? I heard on the news this morning that it would be dangerous for me as a Scandinavian to be on the Gaza strip in the time to come, due to Jyllandsposten (a Danish newspaper) printing some rather innocent drawings of Mohammad, and some fringe Christian Norwegian newspaper reprinting them.

For my own part, as a devout follower of Charles Darwin and Max Stirner, I would not react if butt plugs with their images were made, and would feel honored if someone used my own image to create one, but ... people differ.

Um, I don't know many people (not to mention ANY muslims) who are actually familiar with butt plugs. But it is rather safe to say they would be offended.
My family is Muslim, and I eat halal as much as possible out of respect to my parents, and also because meat tastes better that way and pigmeat is fatty and GROSS.
I was actually going to respond to your "your prophet Mohammad" meme but then I had to leave for THIMUN. Perhaps I will do that later. :)

Looking forward to your response. As for diet: There was a weirdly amusing article in a newspaper in Norway 20 years ago, by some guy who was up in arms about how poorly immigrants knew their new country. He made his point in a way that (though it's pretty sad) makes me chuckle: He pointed out that it's incorrect to write "halal". The correct spelling was "hval" (whale). So if immigrants were to adapt to the Norwegian society, they should learn to spell properly when they were advertising whale meat for sale in their immigrant shops. Oh well. I guess he didn't realize that "ignorant says, ignorant does ( ... )

Imperial College in London. Pimping Prize essentially boils down to the most "pimp" person, ie recipient of most romatic-esque overtures.

We've heard about the stampede, but we have heard nothing from you lately. We worries, we do.

Yeah, alive and well. Do I look silly enough to want to attend a game show?
Capitalism is death, I swear. Speaking of which, if I ever, ever see the word SHOP in big capital letters somewhere I may have to kill somebody. Preferably a small child, but a mindless teenager will do.
Do you feel my rage? It is the product of doing mindnumbingly easy math homework for the last TWO HOURS.

Good to hear.

Game show? Ooops, no. I read so fast I thought it was a concert. I think the place where I really read it, a Norwegian newspaper, said "rock concert".

Math homework: Communism is the better bet there. I envy Hungary the educational system they had befor the fall of the Iron Curtain. And for the safety of small kids and your brother, don't read the first capitalized word in your own message above ... :-)

Missed that bit about Imperial - congratulations! But why would that prevent you from cavorting with hot English guys?

Because the offer is so high! I want to slack off! :)
And I didn't know this at the time, but my father is quite reluctant to let me study in the UK.

Why, is England a Den of Sin and Depravity in comparison with the U.S.?

No, not at all!
Just (1) we have relatives in the States and (2) starting salaries for engineers are higher, with lower taxes, so he thinks I'll be more successful there.
