I replaced my hood templates with the clean ones and created a completely empty hood. I populated with custom made townies and NPCs. I had to re-read these threads a couple of times to figure all instructions but it works fine.

In addition to the MATY links, I found this short tutorial to be helpful in setting things up (in particular, making a txt file of all the folder locations you need was a really simple but handy tip).
