Question: Townies

Aug 31, 2011 07:20

Whenever I make a new custom neighborhood-like for a BACC-I keep getting all the Pleasentview townies. How can I get my game to generate new ones, without using a hack?

townies, sims 2, clean neighbourhood

You'll need clean templates for the game neighbourhoods, first, and then use cheats once inside your new neighbourhood in order to generate townies.

You can find information about that here.

If you don't have notownieregen installed new townies should simply generate by themselves as they are needed. Or even when not needed as is usually the case. You only have to generate townies if you have the various noregen hacks installed.

You can also make your own tonwies using a variety of methods such as using Inge's teleporter shrub or cat (depending on which EPs you have) to transform your own sims into townies. There are other ways but Inge's teleporter is what most people seem to use. The teleporters can be found here: http://drealm.info/simlogical/sl/Sims2Pages/Sims2_Teleporters.htm

So, theoretically, I could kill off (in-game) all the old townies, and the game would regenerate new ones?

Yes. Once the existing townies are dead new ones will be created. The game will then use either the Maxis face templates or your replacement face templates if you have those installed.

Also, there's nothing wrong with hacks in general, only badly made ones. Don't be afraid of using them.

If you don't want to use mods or clean templates (which I do recommend since it's a one time thing and not something that has to be done every time), simply create a new neighborhood and in the neighborhood screen open the cheat window and type in deleteallcharacters. Then create a sim, place them in the neighborhood and use them (and boolprop) to generate new townies, downtownies and npcs through the mailbox shift-click menu.

I've seen it claimed this can bork your game but I've used this method ever since I started playing in 2005 and have never had an issue.

Deleteallcharacters doesn't work properly since BV. It leaves junk hanging around. It is not a good way of getting townies if the player has BV or above. It is much safer to create a "killing lot" and use a teleporter to summon townies and kill them off, then build a nice little cemetery for them to haunt.

Huh. I had no idea. Mental note for future reference. I like the idea of a killing lot lol.

I was actually hoping I could ask someone about this. When you say "make a killing lot", do you mean for every townie in the neighborhood? Or just the sims in the family bin? What about downtownies? Or should I use a clean template for the sub-neighborhoods, instead?

I wanted to submit a question about it, but it's already been brought up several times and I'm... still confused :X I've always just created my neighborhoods and then deleted everything in the Characters folder (because I was told that this was safer than using deleteallcharacters) but now I'm starting to wonder if some of my glitches aren't because I'm doing it wrong XD
