Off topic and completely random (from your perspective) but if you want to know a neat photo trick read on.
Take your 50mm f/1.8 and flip it around so the front element is facing your mirror.
I don't know if you are interested in macro photography but it turns your 50mm into a kick-ass macro lense.
You have to manually set your shutter and f-stop on the camera and lense (respectively) but with digital you can easily see if you are over/under.
the 18-70mm kit-lense you have won't work because it is a G lense and you can't set well enought to focus your f-stop and can't see if you are close enough or focused right without it open all the way.
Also, the shorter the focal length the greater the macro effect.
