Game randomly crashes

Jul 13, 2010 21:08

Hi everyone, I'm having some trouble with my game randomly crashing lately. I haven't had any errors messages or anything like that. It just freezes for a couple of seconds, the screen goes black, and then it goes back to my desktop screen. It started doing this about two days ago and it has never done anything like this before that. Sometimes the ( Read more... )

No, I haven't. I only installed just a few items. I mostly have hair and clothes. Thanks, though.

that doll can attach its self to clothing and hair and other stuff.. have you tried removing all your CC and seeing if the game runs normal without it? if so, you may have something corrupted in there.

Oh, okay. Does it show up separate in the launcher?

Mine's was doing that too. No message, no error, nothing. If I checked the error log, I got "type: ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x8d59484" but the number changes. A quick Google showed that it's a problem that shipped with both Sims 3 and Spore; the game is trying to access a bit of memory that is reserved for the operating system. It's unable to do so, so it crashes. Uninstalling the game completely and totally, and reinstalling should fix it, if that's the problem.

I uninstalled completely, and reinstalled Sims 3 on an external hard drive and it works now, with no crashes.

Oh, thanks! I think I'll try that! I was really hoping it's not something that has to do with a corrupted save file. I'd be really upset if I lost my family.

Copy your save games (and CC if you want) over to a new folder on your desktop, and make sure all EA files are deleted. If that is the problem, making sure no trace of the game remains (besides your protected saves and CC) before you reinstall is the only thing that's going to fix it. I hope it works out for you. :)

If that last bit doesn't help, do you play full screen or windowed? After I got WA, I had issues with random crashing when on vacation, and since I basically only use store stuff (which wasn't fixed post patch from hell) so it wasn't content. Since my graphics card is getting to be more towards the lower end of the list, I decided to try playing windowed mode. Haven't had it crash like that since.

I play full screen. I might try that. I've already uninstalled the game and I'm reinstalling now. If that doesn't end up working, I guess windowed mode will be last resort. I do have all the sims from the family as .sims3pack files somewhere else on computer, so it won't be too bad if nothing works. Thanks for the help!

Last week I had a Rose hair that was making my game crash, it just randomly started doing it to after being installed for a while, but once I removed it my game stopped crashing :/

Besides that did you try the usual crashing tactics? Add game to DEP or allotting above 2GB to it?

Hmm, it could be that rose hair, but it's just that one family that the game crashes on.

Oh, I probably sound stupid, but what is DEP and how do I allot it above 2 GB?

My game was crashing with one specific family and I would try another and it worked fine, as soon as I deleted that hair all clear. That's why I don't install Rose hairs anymore :P It wasn't the first time I have problems with them.

Not stupid since I had the same questions a few weeks ago. Here's the post that helped me :)

You can try this. I'm not sure how much it helped. Doing what Mykaa said helped my game quite a bit.

I think I've just randomly had things go bad for no reason. I had an entire sim to just fizzle out and die in a corrupted mess for really no reason. I hadn't added anything to the game at all in weeks.

If what I'm doing now doesn't work, I'll try that. It looks like it should help with my problem.

So many things can go wrong in this game! I always end up having some sort of trouble.
