That's what I was assuming. I just don't like having the male's surname forced on me like that, even if they do give us the option to change names later.
When my sim got married her husband took her name. I had an option to choose which household to use and I chose hers. So he took her last name. But that's the only marriage I've had in game.
My female sim proposed and when they got married he took her last name. Isn't there a button next to the last name when a sim moves where you can change the last name? Is that what it does?
I've had it work both ways. Male CAS sim married, his wife took his name. Female CAS sim married, her husband took her name. Both were private weddings sans party. The female one was in the leaked version while the male one was in the official version. I don't know if either of those details makes a difference.
In TS2, whoever initiated the 'get married' interaction was the one whose name they both took.
Have your sim go down to city hall during the day, and one of the options you have is to change their name. You can do first and last names, as well as any children they have. Bitsy fixed her last name as well as the children's, but I keep forgetting to have Cycl0n3 go during the day. I tried at night, but you only have the option to tour/join political career. So I guess that department keeps regular work hours!
