Families moving in.

I have a really bizarre question, and I can't seem to find an answer. Okay, say I make a sim and put her into a clean neighborhood, one that I haven't added any extra families to, so there are only the families that are original to the neighborhood and my Sim: where do the families that move in come from? Are they out of the Sim Bin ( Read more... )

The sims that move in are random townies. They don't come from the Sim Bin (although, that is an excellent idea!). You can legally put other families into a legacy neighborhood, as long as you don't change active households. Go to the Edit Town screen and you can move in whatever sims you'd like. Good luck!

Okay. I was having a hard time understanding if that was allowed or not. Like I said, it's mostly for my own enjoyment, but I would like to stick as close to legacy rules as possible.

Keep in mind that there are no townies in Sims 3. There is nobody who, like in Sims 2, is actually truly homeless. All the sims you see running around Sunset Valley and Riverview live in a house somewhere in town. There is no way to actually marry in a "townie" who is also not a playable. So moving in your own sim and then arranging for your legacy founder to accidentally-on-purpose marry him is fair game.

For best results, get the empty Sunset Valley (I can't remember if they have an empty Riverview) template from MATY. They've left all the houses (or you can get a house-free version, but then you have to build the whole town from the ground up) but moved out all the sims so you can just move in a bunch of your own sims to populate the hood and provide the so-called "townie pool".

I thought there were some Sims in Sims 3 without actual houses- for example, the children who deliver the paper, babysitters, burglars, etc.

Forgot about the NPCs! I tend to think of them as "service sims" rather than "townies". From memory, the new legacy rules do not limit the founder and heirs to marrying service sims only. And everyone other than service sims/NPCs seems to live in a house.

Thank you. I read the rules and both times was a bit sleepy. I had a hard time figuring out if I could do that or not. Now I know, which is good, since, um, I already did it!
