Probably a stupid question, but

You choose to start a new game with Riverview. It'll show up in the drop down menu when you go to select which city you want. It won't override your sims in Sunset Valley. I tried out the game a bit before downloading and my sims in SV are just fine.

Yeah, You can definatley have more saves than the four shown, The others appear with a scrolling bar thing.

Also remember that you have to install the neighbourhood (from the launcher) after downloading it! :)
