If you haven't found the coins yet, post office vending machines usually have a stock of one dollar coins.

Somebody else said postage machine too - sounds like that is the best bet!

If your city has a subway or a trolley, you can normally get dollar coins from those machines too, but I think postage machines are a lot more common.

I remember my 14th birthday, I took 80 dollars down to the post office, put it in the vending machine, bought two dollars worth of stamps and got 78 dollars in Susan B. Anthonys.
