The gateway project is looking more and more like it's either destined to fail, or be royally mismanaged by the government, or possibly even both. For that reason alone it should be abandoned, rather than pushed through at all cost like the Liberal government seems determined to do.
At the same time, the UBC analysis seems overly simplistic, even though I'm all for spending the money on public transit instead. To start, Europe and Canada are two different places, with different infrastructures, cultures, and histories. A better comparison would be with Toronto, but even then it's difficult since if I'm not mistaken, they've never actually dismantled their streetcar system like we have.
