Yep, same here... I usually edit as I post, which often leaves some interesting anomalies between the .doc version and the lj version of the story... That said, I usually get my long-suffering wife to read the story first, often a chapter at a time, because she is my best critic. If she hates it, I drop the idea.
Connie is not a sci-fi fan, so if I can keep her entertained with the story, I know it's good! She also proof reads for me and picks up any obvious errors.
It is practically impossible to proof read your own stuff. I can pick up anybody elses typos in an instant, but I'll be forever finding them (+ the anomolies) in my stuff years after I've printed them out.
