IT IS TIME YOU FOR YOU TO JUSTIFY YOUR EXISTENCE

Read this article. This is a blatant power grab. The US government already has the power to use the army in cases of national emergency, according to one source on LJ... The NRA justifies its existence by saying that US citizens have a constitutional duty to overthrow by force of arms any US ( Read more... )

Dude... that's just... man, get a grip.
What's the deal with being so inflammatory? Or is that kinda wacked-out shit what people overseas really believe? If so, that's scary, 'cause it's completely out of touch with reality. I don't get the connection to the NRA- it wasn't mentioned in the article at all.

"Blatant power grab?" How so? I looked outside, and I didn't see any troops on the corner. The article even shies away from specifically accus... I mean suggesting that Bush is trying to expand the application of martial law- it uses the carefully crafted phras "akin to introducing martial law". (emphasis mine)Actually, it makes a lot of sense to me: Bush is looking at the complete and total breakdown of order in New Orleans during Katrina, and is trying to plan. I find the article amusing; on the one hand, it criticizes Bush for not stocking up on a vaccine (that an expert says cannot be ramped up quickly), but then criticizes him when he announces a plan that CAN be implemented to try and deal with such a potential ( ... )

First of all, Ed, yes it is designed to get a rise, but equally designed to maybe make a few people sit up and notice that YOUR civil liberties are being steadily eroded by the Bush administration. Why should I care about that, you may ask? Because Blair has his nose so far up Bush's arse that he can smell his tonsils, is why. What the USA does one year, the UK will often do the next, unless the EU over-rules it... Thank the gods for the EU, in that respect!

Bush is proposing that the army should be used in place of the civilian police force, to enforce quarantine zones in the event of bird flu being transmitted to humans. Do you remember the SARS "pandemic" from a few years ago? More people were killed in the USA in one day through gun-crime and automobile accidents than died world-wide from SARS in that year! This whole bird-flu scare is crap. Sure it is highly transmissible, but between BIRDS. Maybe people can get it, but it's not going to be any more lethal than normal flu ( ... )

Yes, US armed forces can be used in cases of "national emergency". From reading this, the President is wanting the power to use the military in a "police" type role, which to me is totally unacceptable. I think that using the military in a scenario like that should be decided on in a case-by-case basis by the Congress and then for a set amount of time.

Also, as a long time member of the NRA I do own 2 handguns. Self-protection, as in no asshole is going to come in my house and do anything to me.

And my penis size is quite adequate, thank you very much! LOL

Jeff, you own two handguns. Not two dozen automatic weapons. The reason you don't feel the need to own more than two hand guns is because your penis is an adequate size... (Not that I speak from experience you understand?)

That was funny!

True I do not own 2 dozen automatic weapons. However, I may want to get one, depending on if the world situation continues to degrade the way that it has in the past decade or so. It just semms that things are getting scarier in the world.

The problem with having a gun, as I see it, is that you cannot use it to scare someone away. You either shoot them or you don't! If you shoot them, then you become the one commiting the crime, albeit a crime of passion and/or self defence. If you don't shoot the intruder, on the other hand, then why have a gun?

Let me ask you, are you prepared to kill someone over a few possesions? How does that tie in with your Christian faith?

Even more important, are you prepared to send someone to eternal damnation in order to put off receiving your eternal reward for just a few years?

The whole idea of killing someone in self defence should be totally anathema to a "born again" Christian!

It's what they call "penis envy"... Where a woman wishes she were a guy, and goes out and buys the biggest gun she can afford. Obviously a woman who owns a little .22 revolver or automatic that she carries around in her purse isn't suffering from the above condition, just the usual American paranoia.
