preparing for winter

I just bought a set of tire chains for the van.  If we have another winter like last one, I will not be snowed in for almost a week at at time.  Of course now that I have 'em, we'll have a more typical winter with a couple of desultory attempst at snowk, but that's okay.

At CostCo I've been seeing a lot of extreme snow equipment that you don't normally see a lot of for sale in this area. I think a lot of people are going to go into this winter armed in a manner they're not going to need again for several decades.
