“Don’t say ‘I told you so’. I’m fine.” Angela Pleasant wiped her eyes quickly as she heard her twin enter her bedroom.
“I’m mean sometimes but I wouldn’t stoop that low.” What if she starts crying again?
“Sorry.”
It was only a few seconds, but to Lilith the silence seemed to last forever. She was aware of the dripping of the gutter outside, the tired hum of her sister’s old laptop, and the odd silence downstairs. For once, their parents weren’t fighting.
At long last, Angela broke the silence. “I thought he was the one, you know? But things are over.”
“He needs to...” Oh God, what do I say to her? She discarded many suggestions for painful medieval torture methods and perched on the end of the bed instead. “This sucks.”
“Why are you being nice to me? All we ever do is fight.” There was no venom in Angela’s voice as she regarded her sister cautiously.
“Because Mum and Dad are falling apart but I can’t let everything break. No offense, but you look like you’re cracking right now.” Was that still offensive even

Thank you! I've always seen them as being tired of fighting but at the same time they're both too stubborn to make amends. They are twins, after all :)
