I've got a couple of minor questions people may be able to help me with.

1. Do any HOME experts know if there is any JRRT basis for the statement in the published Silmarillion that Dior was killed in the Thousand Caves?  Every JRRT note on the subject I can find has him killed in battle on the East Marches of Doriath.  Presumably Menegroth was ( Read more... )

The Quenya name "Tyelperinquar"--a direct translation of "Celebrimbor"--is used in HoMe for Celebrimbor, though I do not know if Tolkien ever decided whether this was his mother- or father-name.

Don't know about "mara" (which means "useful"), but "maitë" and "hanya" would both work for "skilled". So "Maitefinwë" or "Hanyafinwë". I prefer the first.

Good. You felt my poke. ;)

I once used "Hanyafinwe" as one of the names that Feanaro was contemplating for Curufin. I was on the brink of saying, "Yay me!"...but then I realized that I used your name generator to create that name. Heh.

I don't have the books around just now to check, but IIRC the Fall of Menegroth was one of the bits Christopher Tolkien & co. wrote in their own way because JRRT's notes weren't detailed enough.

I know it was mostly CT's work - I just wondered if he had any source for where Dior was killed... maybe not.
