lawyerdown said a while ago that I should feel free to blather about my view of TSN from a business perspective... so, blah, I felt like rambling. thus, I shall do so.

That. So very much. Fics that simply expects Eduardo to forgive Mark that shit, that expect Eduardo to be all 'Yeah, sure, I totally was the wrong CFO' just frustrate me. And I have the same issues with the 'It wasn't personal' thing. Dude, he only signed because he trusted Mark, how much more personal can this get?

I really need to put this in my next M/E fic. I just hope it won't turn into a bitter/hateful 'This are my issues' thing. :D

I can't imagine any Mark pulling a "it wasn't personal" defense. To me it was 100% personal. Everything about how Mark did it was personal.

I really need to put this in my next M/E fic
*__* I hope you do! I NEED THIS acknowledged by Mark in M/E fic. That's how I can buy M/E!

Yeah, starting with taking his friend's money and ending with being pissed at Eduardo because he went to New York instead of following Mark's dream.

*g* I always have to be careful about this stuff because I'm always in danger of putting too much of my own issues in fics like that. Which explains why my first fix-it fic is an AU and the second one is an outsider view...

but okay okay this is what really makes me nuts: WHO IS DEPOSITION!MARK? Do we think he knows this shit but he's just being petulant and stubborn because he doesn't like being wrong and resents everyone bringing up his least greatest hits? Or does he honestly still feel awesome and brilliant about everything he's done?

On the Arthur/Merlin note, it looks like- if season 3 finale is any indication- Arthur will have more power in season 4, hopefully with that responsibility some level of remorse will begin to be included. I do think he has improved somewhat since season 1 though, at least he's a lot more progressive than Uther- sometimes I thinks it's impressive even when Arhur tells Uther he thinks something is wrong- given that he has been raised with the propoganda all his life (and the only examples of magic he's seen are evil sorcerers).

It seems to me that Mark is the type of guy - and I've known a few of this type - who is deeply invested thinking of himself as the smartest, most rational, most in-control person in the room, while remaining completely unaware that his emotions and his issues are written above his head in letters of fire. "It wasn't personal" and "I made the right choices for Facebook" are totally the stories he'd tell himself, the way he'd try to frame events, so he doesn't have to admit that he's often motivated by wounded pride and fits of temper and, y'know, is basically a human being who fucks up.

So I think it's believable and in character (although not at all sympathetic) for Mark to be full of excuses and self-justifications. What I don't get is why anyone, in-universe or in fandom, would believe his bullshit. For all the reasons you state, and also just the way Mark comes off in the movie - he is a person who is motivated by strong emotions, whose anger and pride and fear (and, to give him some credit, his desire to create) drive everything ( ... )
