Went to LA Pride last Sunday - the first time I've done Los Angeles (usually I do the San Diego one, when I go). My fellow fanfic obsessed, straight brother came along for support and tried to convince me to read more crackfic. Oh, absolutely. I can't believe sometimes that people forget California WAS part of Mexico. For people who grew up in SoCal, especially, the culture is in our blood, interwoven into the city.

It's just funny how so much of queer media (books, television, movies) is so "white-bread", and there's this impression that though there are many people who are gay from other cultural backgrounds, those cultures keep them to be closeted and they often can't or won't actively join both communities. And I find it interesting how SoCal offers such a good example of that not necessarily being true at all. Instead of separating out the two aspects of their lives, many LGBT Latinos have blended them very successfully.

Noah's Arc on Logo was a good start at giving some color to queer media, but we need to see more. People all looking the same = so boring! I know it's a problem with all of American media, but I suppose that I expect this community to hold itself to a higher standard.
