The attitude bothers me almost as much as the base itself.
I really should've screencapped the comment sections on these pictures. Very cute.

It's okay, I had to restrain myself as well. But both images came down within (I'm not kidding) 10 seconds of my messages. Well actually the base user just tossed it in dA storage ...ahhhg.

I want to edit this post later tonight to take the images off. They're ugly as sin.

I can never understand. I've tryed to expain to people before that deviantart is not an image hosting site, but an art site. And if you usericon is below a deviation that you have posted, regardless of what your personal feelings are THE SYSTEM IS SAYING THAT THAT ART IS YOURS. WHEN IT IS SO NOT.

Yes yes, now that we're on this topic lol.

I had an experiance just like what you discribed last year. Someone stealing Shuri's and Aiwa's art and to top it off redruppee's troika fanfiction (and submitting that to literature wtf)
But that actually resulted in a semi-tramatic experiance that would take another journal to fully explain.

Okay, first thing I did was lol.

I'm kind of flattered they decided that drawing deserved a base. But if there is something I hate are bases, bases and OCs with canon characters.
Thanks a lot for dealing with this! *hugs you*

The greatest part is "Ups I didn't know the artist was on DA"
So...if the artist is not on DA is fine to make bases? Cool.
In fact, couldn't they just ask for permission and credit?

And then the other girl makes a drama. Base users with self-insert OCs keep acting as expected from them. And checking her profile she is friends with one of the idiots commenting in the journal trolling Chii and who reported us for not obeying her when she kindly said "fuck off". Awesome people sticks together it seems.
I will talk to her, I hope I don't make commit suicide or something, hell.

BTW Thanks to your screencap I'm listening to Enya now (>w<)

Haha, I can find it hilarious now, but at first I was pretty upset..

And no problem, it was actually I quick fix when I asked them to take the pictures down.

Oh my god yeah THAT About making bases of an artist not on on dA. That pisses me off still, so so bad. They just down want to get caught and confronted. Oh yeah and if you don't use dA you don't count. Such crap.

Yup, they're like a cult or somthing.
Don't push it too much. I really don't want her to commit suicide. But it's really sad I'd even worry about that.

No prob! LOL I had to have Enya since I was pissed for about 5 mintues.

This. I tried to tell her to just ask for permission on the bases they use. Most likely the won't =w=

I tried being kind, I even avoided telling her to just draw by herself, it may be me, but it's much more pleasurable to do something by yourself instead just editing.

The fun part is she complains in a former journal of people stealing her "KidxAkumu" offprings. So we care about ownership when we feel like it, don't we?

They definitely won't :/
Also, I wouldn't be too flattered by having your pic turned into a base, that particualar person has zero respect or admiration for you.
Thanks for basically sticking up for me and your picture though. That made me happy. :'D

Yeah, I agree completely.

And I think that person would complain if a stack of hundred dollar bills fell from the sky and hit her on the head, because it hurt hitting her on the head.

...So, am I in trouble if I used fanarts as "bases" in my flash-work? I tried my best to credit all of them but some didn't come with any signatures or any reference whatsoever in the original filename (so I just put "unknown please tell me D:". And I did try to draw as best I could in my own "style" but I think some came out more recognizable than others. :/ I do try to go more for screenshots when I can, but sometimes even then they don't have the angle/pose I need.

I don't mind bases that much really. No way do you have any trouble with me. I think I mentioned once that you have permission to use any of my Nejiten works for any project you like. I don't mind at all and you have my full permission with credit. I love your flash work, you do really fun and ceative projects.

But personally, I believe that one should always ask permission before useing any piece of artwork by somebody else. And if you can't find the artist, just don't use it.

The person on dA I'm talking about just took a gift drawing that was done for me and used it without permission. We asked her to take it down and they she freaked out and through a tantrum. So it's a totally different case all together. It was the very extreme and a horrible attitude that made me mad.

Weeeell, there's also the whole LJ icon debate thing, as well as the viewpoint of "it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission." But in this case of this kiriban, that wasn't asking for forgiveness, that was...something that requires a large amount of creative swear words. And flamethrowers.

I'd take an art class if I could, but right now all I can do is practice by myself and attempt improvements. (Looking back at old notebooks is hilarious.)

Ah, yes, I read aiwatan's DA journal and missed out on the actual posts and stuff (looks like I still missed a few anyway) but now this makes more sense. Damn the internet makes the world small.

I don't like bases unless they're being used to for practice and learning purposes. All these base works with stuff slapped over them is starting to drive me nuts. And shouldn't it really be common sense to ask permission/credit the original artist when doing stuff like that?

I didn't see her journal update until you mentioned it. I'm reading it now.

I don't mind bases made (with permission) for people who like using them as dolls to make what every character/outfits they're heart desires. But I actually have a fairly negative opinon of bases being used for 'learning' purposes.
Tracing by itself and nothing else, especially from super sylized anime bases teaches no real drawing or visual skills. I don't agree with people saying that bases can teach them how to draw.

Of course there are those that just want to learn tracing and drawing anime shapes and stuff, in that case I can understand and have no problem.

*Facepalm*

Sometimes I wonder why people like them actually have access to the internet. They're a like plague to dA AND FFN, the self-inserts.

It's not just these base users, there are people who steal works from Japanese artists and while they CLAIM that the artwork isn't theirs, they still think dA is some sort of Photobucket.

Jeezus...

I also have issues with tracing. I think it's OK, but you never develop your own style. That's why I practice human anatomy on my own, not just trace bodies and add some colorful hair to it to make it look different. It goes for OC's that are self-inserts into somebody elses series. I don't think OC's are generally a bad thing. The entire SE cast are Ohkubo's OC's, and hell, I have my own OC's, but they belong to their OWN series only (Not that I've done anything with them, though). But when you stick your 'perfect' self into a universe that is someone else's, I have issues.

Sorry for the ranting. -_-;;

Ooooooh Enya, Pax Deorum~ <3 I've listened to her since I was a child of 5, and still do to ( ... )

I really really dislike self-inserts as well. But what infuriated me about this case was the worst attitude towards an artist that I have ever seen in my life.

It's a little difficult to hold back from setting my point of view straight but I don't think that it is worth the energy. Plus she's quite unstable and the sad thing is, if I were to simply saaay ask for an apology or something, she'd spiral out of control.

But yeah, about tracing. I traced hundreds and hundreds of pictures from anime/tv shows/magazines when I was about 14-15. Of course, none of those made it online but I do understand the appeal. You learn much better from actually using your eyes and your brain to figure out drawing what you see.

Some OC's can be great of course, with some thought and originality.

And original characters that you design not for any series but your own concept, in a way, they really do fully belong to you.

Enya was my much needed calm down music!
